STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Delbert O. Greenlee is a driving force and major reason we started WildBear. Del joined the USMC after Pearl Harbor. He was not so cocky to think he could single-handedly win the war, but he sometimes quipped that he was pretty sure if he didn’t join the Marines we would probably lose. That was Del.
On 2/19/1945, serving in the legendary Fifth Marine Division, D Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Regiment, Del landed on Iwo Jima. Days later he was wounded and evacuated, later being awarded a purple heart and bronze star. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, proud husband, business owner and one of the wisest (and wittiest) people we’ve ever known.
